The Bikes

Adrian

The bike, a 2002 BMW R1150GS Adventure, was bought in 2006 with around 40000 miles on the clock.  The bike will start the trip with around 70000 miles under its belt.  Prior to planning this trip, other jaunts have included trips around the Alps and Northern Italy, Norway, and a character-building 2 week trip through howling winds and pouring rains of Northern Spain and France.

Modifications have occurred slowly over time, although this trip has thrown up a few further needs which I will describe below.

Tobinators,  bought second-hand off UKGSER, the new screen position helps massively with the wind buffeting.

Handlebar risers and lowered foot pegs, both from Nippy Normans.  This creates a vastly more comfortable riding position for my 6’3” frame.  This is true for both sitting down riding and standing up during the off-road bits.

Adjustable gear level from Touratech, “nice to haves” for the lowered footpegs.  The stock gear level made it awkward to change gears.

Fastway footpegs from Nippy Normans.  Beats the skinny stock pegs for rider comfort.
